About the Glenn W. Hoffmann Exemplary Program Awards
Established in 1984, the Glenn W. Hoffmann Exemplary Program Awards were created by the SCCSBA to recognize outstanding school programs that have a significant impact on student success in our county. Named in honor of Dr. Glenn W. Hoffmann, who served as County Superintendent from 1967 to 1984, these awards reflect his enduring belief that strong educational leadership is central to meaningful educational reform.
Each fall, school districts are invited to submit programs they believe deserve commendations and that uphold the principles of a free, public education for all students. Eligible programs may be multi-district, district-wide, school-based, or classroom-specific, and each district may submit up to three applications.
Applications are carefully reviewed by a committee of board members and educators who maintain rigorous standards. Applicants are asked to demonstrate measurable outcomes that show the program’s impact on student success. Programs earning the highest scores are honored with the Glenn W. Hoffmann Exemplary Program Award, presented at a ceremony each spring.
Each year, one program also receives the Kristi Porter Outstanding Program Award, presented to the highest-scoring program across all applicants. Kristi Porter served ten years on the Oak Grove School District Board and was deeply involved with the SCCSBA as well as numerous community initiatives. As Hoffmann Chair, she revitalized the awards program with her vision and energy. Kristi and her son, Robert, tragically lost their lives in an automobile accident while vacationing in Hungary on April 24, 2006. She is fondly remembered by colleagues, family, and friends, and SCCSBA honors her legacy each year through this award.
